Like many telecommunication companies, ARCOM's customers were faced with legacy gear that needed to be upgraded to newer technologies. Robert Lane, the Sales Manager from ARCOM explains, "Our customers were looking for an alarm solution that would take their legacy equipment as well as new equipment and convert the alarms to an SNMP format for presentation in their Network Operation Center. We looked around the marketplace for different solutions and came up with DPS. We found it was the best value and the most flexible product for our needs."

Because of its remote geographical location, ARCOM deals with a lot of remote sites, many of which possess legacy equipment. "I think the collection of alarms here is tremendously important because people don't want to dispatch technicians. Dispatch here oftentimes involves the use of helicopters, which costs a lot of money, and a lot of those sites are filled with old equipment," explains Robert. "One of the issues that was really concerning the NOC technicians was that there was no 'keep-alive' signal on the NetGuardian. This would have created the need to go out and create another polling network just to know the remotes were alive. So we made the request to DPS to incorporate a feature that would actually send out a "keep-alive' signal and they implemented it. Our customers are extremely happy at that flexibility."
