Expansion Cards Enhance Functionality:
Network Equipment-Building System (NEBS) testing covers two major areas: electrical parameters and environmental conditions. Product safety tests are a major focus of the program and safety has always been an important aspect of the DPS Design process.
National Technical Systems has issued reports (NTS No. 974-7407A, B, & CE) which show the electrical, environmental and safety performance of our products and their compliance to both NEBS Level 3 and European Directives. Our test units were subjected to lightning stroke, humidity, heat, cold, gases, dust, drop, vibration, altitude, flame and earthquake among many other conditions, with no failures. All forms of electromagnetic interference (EMI) testing were passed as well.
The KDA 864-TL1 is an alarm and control remote (network element) that packs 64 alarm points and 8 control points into a single 19-inch housing and reports to an OSS using Transaction Language 1 (TL1) protocol. The KDA reports alarms over dedicated or dial-up circuits. On-site personnel can see alarms on the front panel LEDs or have full interactive monitoring by connecting a personal computer to the front panel craft port.
TL1 support includes autonomous messages (Logger messages that report when an alarm fails or clears) as well as response to queries from the Operational System host or from an ASCII terminal.
KDA Easily Configured with T/KDA Software
The KDA 864-TL1 is programmed with KDA-TL1 software via the craft port on the front of the KDA or remotely via the secondary communications port. The software must be installed in a P.C. before it can be used.
An expansion slot is included to add expansion cards for analog inputs, additional alarm inputs and/or additional control outputs. See Model Numbers section for details.
Analog Reporting over TL1
This latest version of the KDA TL1 adds support for analog expansion cards, allowing analog voltages and currents to be evaluated and converted to threshold alarms. While the TL1 protocol does not support the transmisssion of actual analog values, the DPS analog cards use four software defined threshold values to generate equivalent discrete alarm points. You can then enter the threshold values in the TL1 message Condition field so that the threshold value is reported with the alarm.
Daisy-Chain up to Four KDAs for 256 Alarms and 32 Controls
Using its Daisy-Chaining feature you can add up to three satellite KDAs to expand to 256 alarm points and 32 control points at a single location.
Interface Docking Stations
The KDA is equipped with two communication port interface docking stations. Optional interfaces include RS232 and a 212 "AT" type modem. The modem option is password protected from unauthorized intervention. The Primary port is for TL1 network interface. The secondary port (if equipped with a docking module) is for dial-in or dedicated line access for configuration or TL1 message retrieval. It does not perform a dial-out function for alarm reporting, pager access or alternate path rounting. The configuration software also provides a standard modem or direct line connection function that accesses the KDA's secondary port directly from the configuration computer, as well as a function that allows the configuration computer to access the secondary port via a "smart switch" or other pathing device that requires interaction for port selection (provides terminal emulation screen).
Opto-Isolated Alarm Inputs
The 64 discrete opto-isolated inputs allow the KDA to turn any basic contact closure or ground loop closure into an alarm. Fifty-six inputs are ground activated, 8 inputs have both sides of the opto-isolator brought to the connectors for "bi-polar" alarm sources.
Relay-Isolated Control Outputs
There are 8 "Form A" dry contact relay outputs for controls. Relays may be activated in a latching or momentary mode. Latching is electrical, not magnetic, except in the case of the LR-24 relay expansion card.
KDA Operational Status Indicated on Front Panel LEDs
High intensity LED status indicators provide a local display of KDA operation as well as alarm point status. An indicating fuse and a fuse alarm LED are conveniently located on the front panel. Fuse alarm output relay contacts close when the fuse blows. A DB9 connector for the configuration port is also on the front panel.
The KDA 864-TL1 features a fixed-mount housing with a plug-in P.C. board for all electronics. A connectorized back panel is also available. In case of failure your system can be quickly restored by simply changing the board. And by keeping the configuration data on a floppy, you can configure a new board in no time by plugging a computer into the front panel craft port. The KDA 864 operates from AC or DC power sources.
