SNMPv3 Mediation

If you have older SNMP gear in your network that is not being mediated to SNMPv3, than your network could be at risk. SNMPv3 uses encryption to secure your network. This white paper walks you through how to protect your gear, and your investment, using SNMPv3 security. With several quick and easy implementation options, integrating SNMPv3 into your network is easier than ever.

SNMPv1 was the original version of SNMP. It was a big leap forward precisely because it became so popular. It is incredibly important to have an open standard for machine-to-machine (M2M) communication.

As with the first version of everything, SNMPv1 left much to be desired. It had no significant security as its "trap" messages were not encrypted. It also had no kind of message confirmation. You simply had to hope that your trap was received by the manager. Traps lost during transmission would not be noticed.

SNMPv2c offered some improvements, including a new "Inform" message type that would have confirmed delivery. But there was still no encryption.

SNMPv3 finally offered security by encrypting traps, but now you were staring down a new problem: What do you do with all of your older SNMP gear? Much of it simply was not powerful enough to support encryption, and you probably couldn't afford to replace it.

This opened up a new product category: SNMPv3 mediation devices. These accept older SNMP versions and send encrypted SNMPv3 traps for heightened security.

This white paper explains how to mediate your older SNMP traps to SNMPv3.

Get a Custom Application Diagram of Your Perfect-Fit Monitoring System

There is no other network on the planet that is exactly like yours. For that reason, you need to build a monitoring system that's the right fit for you.

"Buying more than you need" and "buying less than you need" are real risks. You also have to think about training, tech support, and upgrade availability.

Send me a quick online message about what you're trying to accomplish. I'll work with you to build a custom PDF application diagram that's a perfect fit for your network.

Make an Informed Decision

Your network isn't off-the-shelf.

Your monitoring system shouldn't be, either.
