"Is this job my perfect fit?"

Woman Thinking
How to tell if a job is your perfect fit...

During the course of your job search, you will probably apply for several open positions at very companies. Depending on the type of work you're looking for, it might be easy to identify the jobs that are best suited for you. Maybe you've got tons of customer service experience, so you'll search for jobs where you get to interact with customers regularly. But for someone who's fresh out of college or recently unemployed, it may not be so obvious. This article offers a few questions you might ask yourself to figure out of a potential job (and employer!) is right for you:

  • Will this job/company allow me to expand my desired skill set?
This is probably the most important question you should ask yourself when evaluating a prospective job. If you're your dream is to become a successful fiction writer, you probably wouldn't apply for jobs in accounting. Your desired skill set won'' improve if you're not constantly challenging yourself. Another way of asking yourself this question is, "Is this job going to take me where I want to get in my future?"
  • Is there room for growth?
Speaking of the future, another important detail you need to think about is growth. If you're applying for entry-level positions, this usually means there are higher levels of employment that you can advance to with the right training. Do your homework before interviewing with a company your unfamiliar with to see how to "climb" their ladder of success. For example, DPS Telecom promotes from within, and all members of the management team began as entry-level employees with the drive to succeed.
  • What have I learned about the company culture? Does it fall in sync with my goals?
By the time you apply for a new job and go on your first interview, you should have a good idea of what their company culture "feels like." A job at a factory plant, for example, might be very paced, with daily tasks handled on a set schedule. If you're the type of person who needs to know what to expect from each day of work and you appreciate routine, this could be a great fit for you. DPS Telecom's company culture is pretty unique, being focused on systematic testing to improve processes all over the company. But with new projects constantly underway and new sales strategies being devised, life DPS is very fast-paced.

If you've asked yourself these 3 questions, and are satisfied by what you learn about DPS - you're in the right place! Our online job application is designed to help us both determine is a career at DPS is right for you.
