RTUs with 900Mhz/2.4Ghz Wireless Radio Transport; No Monthly Service Fees

If you manage remote sites, you know how important it is to always have situational awareness. Even if LAN fails (or you don't have LAN available at a site), you must continue to receive alarm notifications.

One possible alarm reporting path is GSM/CDMA cellular wireless. DPS has several RTUs that support cellular if you prefer that technology (ex. maybe you have just a few sites and they all have cell coverage). Some companies, however, have decided against cellular wireless.

Top 4 Reasons to Avoid GSM/CDMA Wireless RTUs:

  1. You won't have coverage in very remote areas.
  2. You don't have control over the cellular network's uptime.
  3. You have to pay a monthly fee for SMS, data, and/or voice.
  4. You may lose connectivity during times of natural disaster or terrorism.

What you need is a private wireless reporting path that doesn't involve cellular networks at all, like 900Mhz or 2.4Ghz. You'll get all the advantages of wireless data transmission, without the headaches and fees of working with a 3rd party.

Top 4 Advantages of 900Mhz/2.4Ghz Wireless RTUs:

  1. You can add wireless coverage anywhere.
  2. You have full control over wireless uptime.
  3. You won't pay any monthly fees.
  4. You won't be affected by cellular outages during natural disasters or terrorist events.
Wireless Radio RTU

DPS RTUs are now available with 900Mhz/2.4Ghz wireless alarm reporting. One base station can serve many RTUs, and two antenna options are available:

  • High-Gain antenna = 28-mile range (2463 sq. mi.)
  • Standard antenna = 5-mile range (78.5 sq. mi.)

This is an excellent solution if you're a telco, or particularly if you're a power utility with a dense arrangement of substations. It may also be helpful if you work for a railway, public safety, or government/military organization.

900Mhz/2.4Ghz is available on a variety of RTU platforms. Use the form below (or call 1-800-693-0351, or email sales@dpstele.com) to tell DPS exactly what RTU capacity you need and how many base stations you'll need to cover your geographic area.

The NetGuardian 832A G5

The NetGuardian 832A G5 is a powerful, compact LAN based alarm collector with wireless connectivity that provides network managers with remote visibility of their IP network elements. With 32 ping alarms, 32 discrete alarms, 8 analog inputs, and 8 controls, this versatile unit is the ideal network monitoring solution.

The NetGuardian 832A notifies personnel using a variety of methods with a complete status message. Notification types include SNMP Traps, alphanumeric pager, numeric pager, text message, TCP text, T/MonXM, and E-mail. The unit also stores up to 100 events in its event log.

In addition to network and environmental alarms and controls, the NetGuardian also acts as a terminal server for 8 serial ports, thereby eliminating the need for dedicated circuits and the recurring monthly costs associated with such transports.

The NetGuardian 832A is easy to install, with connectors for all serial and LAN ports, alarm, analog, and control wiring. A hinged back panel with all wire wrap connections is also available for other installation options. The unit mounts quickly in either 19" or 23" equipment racks while occupying only one rack unit of space.

Provisioning of the NetGuardian 832A can be easily accomplished using any Web Browser or generic TTY terminal. This can be done on site, using the front panel craft port, or remotely via LAN (TELNET), wireless, or dial-up modem. The entire configuration is saved on the NetGuardian 832A where it remains secure through power outages in non-volatile RAM.

The Wireless NetGuardian 832A G5 includes a wireless IP modem and antenna (GSM or CDMA, depending on build option) for alarm reporting and remote access. "This is an excellent alternate path option for any site," says DPS Director of Engineering Mark Carberry. "And it can serve as the primary reporting path at very remote sites where no other connection is readily available."

The NetGuardian 832A supports SNMP v2c and v3 Informs, as well as SNMP v3, v2c, and v1Traps. SNMP v3 Inform messages provide users with the most secure SNMP data transmission available. With encrypted messaging, only authorized devices can view trap data from the NetGuardian.

The NetGuardian 832A G5 has three Wireless Connection Modes:

  • Permanent:

Used at sites where wireless is your primary reporting path. This mode keeps an active connection at all times, giving you round-the-clock access to the web browser interface, FTP, and more.
  • On-Demand:

Similar to Permanent Mode, but the air link is not established until required. Great option for conserving bandwith and cost.
  • Backup:

Used when wireless is your alternate reporting path, Backup Mode activates the wireless modem only when LAN fails.

With tons of additional options and accessories, the NetGuardian 832A G5 is the perfect wireless RTU for your network. You can't afford to leave your site unprotected if LAN fails. Protect your site and your mission-critical gear with a wireless RTU.
