DPS Telecom Announces New Discrete Alarm Point Expansion Unit: The NetGuardian DX 64

FRESNO, Calif., Sept. 26, 2008 - DPS Telecom, a leading developer of network alarm monitoring solutions, announced today the release of a new discrete alarm point expansion unit, the NetGuardian DX 64.

Having enough discrete alarm points to monitor all your revenue-generating equipment is essential for protecting mission-critical communications networks worldwide in the telecom, transportation, utility, government, military, education, and other industries. As time goes on and your business expands, your network grows with it. If you don't deploy new network monitoring gear, you'll struggle to monitor more equipment with the same number of alarm points.

Video review of the similar 832A DX (32 discretes instead of 64):

"Expanding network monitoring capacity in 64-point increments allows your visibility to keep pace with your growth at both logistical and economic levels," said DPS Telecom President Eric Storm.

One solution is to simply purchase additional Remote Telemetry Units (RTUs) to place at your sites. While this method seems simple, it creates unnecessary duplication. You'll end up paying for hardware you already have with a single RTU. You'll also eat up more switch or hub ports and have to get another IP address from your IT department.

The right expansion chassis will give you an easier, more cost-effective solution. Choosing expansion units over purchasing additional base RTUs not only costs less, but it also simplifies alarm management. All of the expansion alarm points are in the same logical group as the base alarms. You add capacity without adding confusion.

The NetGuardian DX 64 expansion can double, triple and even quadruple the number of alarm points reported by the NetGuardian 864A RTU. Up to 3 NetGuardian DX 64 units can be daisy-chained to the 864A, giving you a total of 256 SNMPv3 points.

Using the dual RS232 ports to daisy-chain the NetGuardian DX 64 to the 864As already in your alarm system will allow you to avoid any complicated installations. If you have an SNMP manager, the NetGuardian DX 64 also allows you to conserve by adding more alarm points to the same SNMP IP address.

What would happen if you ran out of alarm points? Would there be enough alarm coverage to protect your network uptime? You could "or" alarms by wiring multiple outputs to a single input, but then you'll never know exactly what's going on when an alarm occurs.

What if an event occurred at a site that you're not fully monitoring? Would you be able to respond in time or even know about it before an outage occurs? The NetGuardian DX 64 will help you get the most out of your NetGuardian 864A to maximize your existing investment. That's one of the best ways to boost ROI.
