The KDA832-T8 is an advanced alarm collection device that has been optimized to give you lots of monitoring power in only a single rack unit package. The combination of 32 alarm points, 8 relays and 8 TBOS ports will monitor the vast majority of sites that require telecommunications or environmental supervision. Ideal for Cell Sites, MTSO"s, CEV"s, Network Centers and CO"s, these units provide the information you need to keep your network up and running.
As with the KDA 864"s, this RTU supports an expansion card, downloadable provisioning, and multiple order options so you can have an alarm remote that is tailor made to your application.
The unit supports 32 optically isolated alarm inputs. Twenty-eight of these alarm points are ground closure activated. Four inputs bring out both sides of the opto so it is possible to monitor closures to -BATT as well as standard ground closures. Each alarm point is reversible and can be assigned an alarm qualification time. Alarm qualification times can range from a tenth of a second to over an hour.
The 832-T8 contains 8 Relays that may be used to control other pieces of equipment. Depending on your applications, these can be use to perform such functions as reset equipment, switch transmitters, release door locks, turn on lights and control audible / visual alarm indicators.
The controls can support both momentary and latched modes of operation. Momentary durations are software provisionable. Magnetically latched relays that retain their status during power failures are available as an order option. All relays allow you to independently bring out either the N/O or N/C lead.
The "T8" portion of the unit's name represents the 8 TBOS ports supported by the unit. Each port uses an RS485/RS422 interface and may be configured to poll any combination of alarm displays up to the 8 allowable by the TBOS protocol. Each port can be set to operate at either 1200 or 2400 baud.
This is a perfect way to collect alarms from fiber rings or other equipment that employs the TBOS protocol. The KDA reduces communication link requirements since it "stacks" multiple ports of TBOS onto a single physical link. Other benefits include faster and more reliable alarm transport.
The KDA 832-T8 supports expansion cards that equip the KDA to better suit your monitoring application. These cards include: analog capability, additional TBOS ports, additional Relays, and ASCII virtual ports back to the master.
The KDA can be used a dedicated remote, dialup remote or both (Alternate path). In the case of alternate path, should the primary dedicated facility fail, the KDA will fall back to dialup.
Dedicated interfaces include RS232, RS485, TTL and our very popular 202 interface. The dialup models use a 212 docking module.
If additional discretes are required, up to 3 KDA 864"s can be connected to the base KDA832-T8 supplying a total of 224 inputs and 32 controls. The satellite KDA"s use the interface modules of the base units so no external hubbing or bridging is required.
This RTU supports downloadable firmware which means the "operating software" can be updated without the need for opening the KDA or replacing chips. Simply plug your laptop into the craft access port and download the new software. Maintenance agreements are available which not only extend the standard 1 year hardware warranty, but also ensure you can take advantage of the latest enhancements.

Configuration & Monitoring Software
The KDA832-T8 comes standard with T/KDA software that runs on DOS based PC"s or Laptops. This software is used to provision (download) or upload the units. The unit stores all of its provisioning in NV ram, so the unit's configuration will not be lost in the case of a power outage.
The T/KDA software can also be used to locally view the status of all alarms (including TBOS) collected by the KDA, as will as to issue controls to the remote. This T/KDA software also provides excellent turnup diagnostic tools.
The PC running the software can talk to the KDA via an RS232 - DB9 connector on the front of the unit or via dialup for those units equipped with modems.
Routing Option: Alternate Routing Option Allows KDA 832-T8 to report via Dial Line in Case of Dedicated Line failure.
