Using a Fiber Media Converter to Also Protect Your Network

Are you spending too much money on media converters to convert your 1000BaseX fiber to 10/100/1000BaseT LAN? Using LAN-based devices at fiber only sites forces you to spend money on media converters that eat up your rack space and your budget.

Many companies have spare fiber already in place for future use. Being able to hook up to this fiber and convert it to 10/100/1000BaseT LAN is a common way to connect to the existing network.

But why limit your potential with a single-function fiber media converter? Imagine a device that could convert 1000BaseX fiber into copper-based 10/100/1000 LAN and provide extra network security - all from the same box without breaking the bank.

It's possible to achieve the enhanced protection and the extra convenience of a direct fiber connection with none of the extra cost.

Using a multi-function remote terminal unit (RTU) gives you this extra protection. The equipment on your network is exposed to many different threats: temperature, humidity, water, etc. Imagine having the power to monitor all these critical variables - it could mean the difference between a crippling outage and smooth network uptime.

A good RTU will be able to provide you with features like...

  • Detailed alert notifications - So you know exactly what the problem is. Descriptive alerts, without any unneeded jargon, arm you with the information you need to make the right decisions when facing a network emergency.
  • 24/7 alert capabilities - An overheating server room or power failure to a key generator won't always conveniently occur during standard business hours. That's why a good RTU will give you flexible alert options (pages, email, voice alerts, SMS text messages, etc) that can warn you about problems at any time of day no matter where you are.
  • Industrial-grade durability - Because your monitoring system shouldn't be the first device to fail. There's no point in having a monitoring system if it's not capable of withstanding rigorous conditions. Settle for nothing less than industrial-grade hardware.

Using an all-in-one RTU can give you a greater return on your investment. Why pay for only a fiber media converter when you can get a device to guarantee your network security and convert your 1000BaseX fiber to the 10/100/1000BaseT LAN your critical devices need? You can save money and free up valuable rack space with the right RTU.
