After Your Transport Upgrade Killed Your Monitoring - Migrate and Enhance It...

Your Transport Upgrade Knocked Out Your Monitoring

There comes a time in almost every telecom network, when portions of the transport need to be upgraded or replaced. There are many reasons for this. Sometimes the equipment is no longer economical to maintain or repair. In other cases, the technology becomes obsolete. Perhaps regulatory issues force you into frequency changes. But regardless of the reason for a change, you end up with an upgraded transport that is better than its predecessor in every way (especially bandwidth). Unfortunately, these types of transport upgrades can carry unintended consequences when it comes to alarm monitoring. There are two common transport-upgrade side effects that can shut down your monitoring. The first happens when you replace a system that had embedded alarm collection with a new one that doesn't. The second is when you lose the "overhead" transport that carried your telemetry data.

Migrate and Enhance Your Monitoring - All at Once

You want to be able to make sure you get through this migration with at least the same level of monitoring you had in place before the transition. The good news is, in much the same way your transport technology has evolved, so has alarm monitoring technology. With contemporary DPS monitoring solutions, you can know much more about your network and communicate that information over a variety of transports. Why not supplement your basic discrete collection with analog visibility of temperature, humidity, and battery voltages? There's a lot of intelligence built into DPS alarm collection gear that is specifically designed to allow easy configuration and local visibility - in a form factor that works well at your sites.
