President's Letter: November 2007

Last month, we discussed how to migrate legacy RTU's to modern protocols, such as SNMP. This month, we will examine legacy issues from several perspectives. First, we look into the best practices to document your configuration and database while your legacy system is 100% functional.

We also explore ways to improve your monitoring once you have decided to replace your current alarm collection devices (RTU's). It's important for us to stress that replacing your RTU's isn't necessarily the first thing nor the best thing to do when platform changes are required. However, once that decision is made, you have a big opportunity to enhance your monitoring as opposed to simply replacing it.

We’re already getting close to the end of the year and are starting to receive our traditionally high end-of-year quote and purchase activity. While we have scaled up our production capacity over the past few years, we simply can’t manufacture hundreds of units each from multiple last-minute orders all at once.

Because of our large product mix, we build to order. Therefore, if you have a monitoring need that HAS to be delivered by the end of the year (or sooner for companies that start winding down mid-December), contact us now. Our goal is to have your monitoring gear delivered before Christmas so you can enjoy your holiday!

'Til next month,

Eric Storm, President of DPS Telecom
