Frame Relay/T1

Frame Relay/T1 is a specific subset of "Frame Relay".

Topics Related to Frame Relay/T1:

Frame Relay/T1 is common in WANs worldwide. Because it can be cheaper and simpler than other connection types, it has become quite popular. This can, however, present a problem for network reliability management tasks. Monitoring equipment doesn't typically have native Frame Relay/T1 support, and therefore has no way of communicating with an alarm master from sites that are only connected via Frame Relay/T1.

In response to this growing problem, some forward-thinking vendors have created new devices capable of Frame Relay/T1 data transmission without the need for any additional equipment. These advanced units are said to be capable of "T1 Alarm Monitoring." As an added bonus, they can also serve as T1 routers, providing Ethernet to other site devices using only your existing Frame Relay/T1 connection.

In one common implementation of this application drawing, Frame Relay/T1 is the protocol/connection pair used to carry alarm data.
