Monitor SNMPv3 with The NetGuardian 832A G5

The SNMPv3 support is the first addition to the newly released G5 monitoring platform, allowing you to monitor all of your SNMP devices with enhanced security via message encryption. Now, the NetGuardian G5 allows you to report alarms in SNMP v1, v2cc, or v3, leveraging the robust NetGuardian feature set and your existing SNMP manager.

The NetGuardian 832A G5 - Now with SNMPv3 Support

Monitor Using One or All Versions of SNMP
The NetGuardian 832A G5 provisioning tools have been updated to support advanced SNMPv3 applications. Using the "Read and Write Access" field in NGEdit or the NetGuardian web interface, you can choose which SNMP versions managers may use to communicate with your NetGuardian. By restricting your managers to v3 only, you're requiring them to use the protocol's enhanced security. In environments where security is less of a concern, you can allow all SNMP versions to maximize flexibility.

The SNMP tab in NGEdit allows you to easily change your SNMP monitoring settings

The NetGuardian 832A G5 automatically generates a unique engine ID to eliminate conflicts caused by duplicate IDs. You can modify your NetGuardian's default v3 Engine ID for advanced SNMP applications, but this is recommended only for experienced users.

SNMPv3, the Most Secure Version of SNMP
Using SNMPv3, the NetGuardian 832A G5 encrypts its messages with CBC-DES encryption, a part of the Universal Security Model (USM). The encrypted data appears scrambled if it is intercepted, rendering it unreadable by anyone but the intended recipient. This makes SNMPv3 your best option when routing SNMP messages over the Internet. This is ideal for companies that have mission-critical infrastructure that mandates high security.

Unique Security Profiles for up to Four Users
The NetGuardian 832A G5 supports unique security profiles for up to four users. Each user can be assigned a unique set of security parameters, including authentication and/or privileged access. You can generate authentication keys with your choice of MD5 or SHA For maximum security and flexibility.

The NetGuardian 832A G5 Offers Multiple Reporting Options
In addition to reporting to up to two SNMP managers, the NetGuardian G5 can now send v3 trap information to any manager with SNMPv3 support. This utilizes the same DPS MIBs as previous NetGuardian generations , so DPS clients with earlier models of the NetGuardian 832A will not have to recompile MIBs to add v3 support.

In addition to reporting to two global SNMP managers, the NetGuardian 832A G5 can also report alarms to up to eight notification managers. With this functionality, you can program specialized sets of alarms, and direct them to the appropriate notification manager. This allows you to send building access alarms right to your site security manager, while sending technical problem notifications directly to your dispatcher's workstation.

Make a Smooth SNMPv3 Transition with the NetGuardian 832A G5
If you're transitioning to SNMPv3 in your network, the NetGuardian 832A G5 can help you make the change. You can start reporting alarms in SNMP v1 or v2c and switch over to v3 whenever you're ready.

The New NetGuardian 864A Also Supports SNMPv3
The new 64-point NetGuardian 864A G5 also gives you SNMPv3 monitoring, as well as 64 discrete alarm points. If you need to monitor more devices, including SNMPv3 equipment, this new remote makes your job easier.

Choose the Right SNMP Version for Your Security Needs
As the NetGuardian 832A and 864A G5 remotes now support all three versions of SNMP, it's important to determine which is best for your unique monitoring applications. If you need the most secure data transmission available, you should monitor strictly in SNMPv3 protocol. However, if you're in an environment where high-level security is not necessary, it's probably better to stick with SNMP v1 or v2c. You won't have to manage complex security settings, and you'll still receive the powerful benefits of a NetGuardian remote.

DPS Telecom is Proud to Offer You Continuous Product Innovation for Your Monitoring Needs
Now you can truly have the best of both worlds.
