DPS Telecom Celebrates 38 Years Delivering Remote Monitoring Solutions

This month, October 2023, DPS celebrates its 37th anniversary. From the beginning, DPS has been a client-oriented company. Our focus is on delivering the best solutions for each client individually. That's how almost all of our flagship products originated: as a custom solution for a client who partnered with us to create something to meet their specific needs.

The History of DPS Telecom

37 years ago, in a little basement in 1986, DPS was founded by Bob Berry, Ron Stover, and Eric Storm. It started as a consulting company, and turned into an engineering company focused on software development. Over time, the company also became vertically integrated, and now everything from engineering to SMT to metal to sales and marketing is done out of our Fresno headquarters.

Some of the first products DPS released were the first iteration of our T/Mon: the Intelligent Alarm Monitor (IAM), and our first RTU: the KDA.

The project that put DPS on the map was the NTP for AT&T in 1998. This was a lengthy and involved project that resulted in a new product, a very satisfied client, and catalyzed new opportunity for DPS Telecom.

Since then, the world and telecommunications industry have changed, as is the nature of life. Motivated by a drive for client satisfaction and constant growth and improvement, we have adapted, evolved, and expanded. More recent developments in the DPS story include lots of new projects and products, and the addition of a sister company!

The Adoption of a Sister Company: Digitize, Inc.

There has been a lot of exciting change in the DPS Telecom world in the last two years, as we have recently taken on the challenge of adding a sister company to the mix. Last year, we acquired Digitize, a company similar in alarm monitoring technology to DPS, focused on smoke and fire alarming. With what the DPS founding fathers have learned from the process of the growth and development of DPS, the acquisition was seen as an opportunity to grow another company into a greater enterprise.

With the acquisition of Digitize has come a lot of shifting, learning, and growth for the DPS team. CEO Bob Berry and several other key members of the DPS team have enjoyed frequent air time traveling back and forth between DPS HQ in California and Digitize HQ in New Jersey (That's why you might occasionally get calls from the DPS team following up on projects from a New Jersey phone number!)

New Products

Since the introduction of our G6 platform, we have developed improved renditions of many of our flagship equipment, along with reimagined solutions to meet the needs of an ever-evolving and expanding industry.

G6 Platform features

The G6 platform is TLS 1.2 enabled, so firmware updates can now be made on HTTPS. Additional benefits of our latest G6 product line include SNMP v3 compatibility, Modbus processing capability,

NetGuardian 832A G6: Designed for Industrial-Strength Security

The NetGuardian 832A G6 is a part of our next-generation series of RTUs that are engineered to deliver only the highest level of reliability and security. With 32 discrete alarms and 8 analog inputs, the unit is built to handle industrial-grade security needs while also providing detailed reporting features that allow you to monitor and manage effectively. The unit includes dual Ethernet ports for redundancy of communications, making the NetGuardian the perfect choice for high-security installations.

BVM G3: A Compact Battery Voltage Monitoring RTU

Our latest BVM RTU is designed to address one of the biggest challenges faced by telecommunications companies- keeping the batteries in remote locations charged to support network uptime during outages. The BVM G3 monitors the voltage, temperature and internal resistance levels of batteries remotely, allowing you to diagnose potential battery failures before they occur.

BSM (Battery System Monitor) G6

We also recently engineered an even more space-saving battery voltage monitoring unit with lower-profile hardware. If you're looking for something especially compact (The unit is probably not much bigger than the sandwich you had for lunch!) with all the benefits of a small RTU for the main purpose of monitoring your backup battery strings, the BSM may be the right solution for your UPS monitoring.

HVAC Controller G6: Powering Smart Management of Air Conditioning and Heating

Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) controls are essential in maintaining the ideal climate within any data center and remote sites. Our HVAC Controller G6 RTU provides automatic management of HVAC units, the ability to remotely monitor and control these systems and detailed reporting for daily, weekly or monthly analysis. With the G6 model, the HVAC controller uses a more advanced processor that handles more data, faster, and has the capability to expand seamlessly through additional data ports.

T/Mon: The Master Control Station That Helps You Manage Your Network Better

As businesses continue to grow and evolve, their infrastructures become more complex, making it difficult to manage efficiently. Our T/Mon, master control station software, helps network managers monitor, control, and manage their network from a single intuitive interface. T/Mon provides a holistic view of network and device performance across different platforms, which means it can consolidate alarms and enable you to act on the right information quickly. The software is also compatible with over 27 different protocols, providing integration with different hardware and networking devices. Our remote access feature gives you the ability to remotely manage your network infrastructure from anywhere, at any time. The power of automated tasks comes to the forefront with our T/Mon master control station software, which acts as an efficient RMM agent, consolidating alarms and enabling swift action.

Vision and Direction: Continued Growth and Innovation

In the more than three and a half decades since the genesis of DPS Telecom, there has been a lot of change, evolution, growth, and reimagination; but the core values and goals of the company have remained the same. We've maintained our commitment to client service, which often encompasses custom product design and engineering. We have consistently adapted our products and services to the ever-changing needs of our clients. The growth we've experienced is based on our vision. We truly value our relationships with our clients. The ultimate proof is that we're still working with many of our original clients.

Our goal is always to deliver the best quality remote monitoring solutions for each client's unique infrastructure, needs, and monitoring goals.

DPS continues to develop innovative solutions that meet the diverse needs of our clients. Our range of products is engineered and designed to provide industrial-strength security while being flexible enough to handle the different needs of our clients, and evolve as security requirements and industry demands change. Products such as the NetGuardian 832A G6, HVAC Controller G6, BVM G3, and T/Mon continue to provide our clients with reliable remote management, flexible network visibility, and vital alarm notifications.

By developing products and services that positively impact its clients' operations, DPS Telecom team has become not just an equipment vendor, but truly your partners in network reliability management.
